Flu's Visiting

Hello All, on this crisp morning in December. I meant to post another story about my life in the Seneca, Kansas, mission during the 1961-62 school year. But the flu bug conquers all!

I did get the flu shot as I've done each year for nearly two decades, but that yearly shot hasn't kept me from having flu three or four times a winter. I'm lucky that each bout lasts only a couple of days.

This one began with a headache that lasted ten hours, despite my taking some prescription medication. Once the headache vamoosed, flu ached in the muscles and nausea greeted my stomach. So I'm going to simply drink lots of fluids, munch on soda crackers, and eat applesauce for the next couple of days.

And sleep!

And visit the site where I'm enjoying the Jacquie Lawson Advent calendar this season. Here's a winter scene from a Dutch artist. It reminds me of the Edwardian-mansion scene on the calendar. Very Downton Abbey.

Take care. Keep warm. And keep your head covered when you go outside in the chill. Peace.

  1. So sorry to hear the flu keeps getting to you. Do you add probiotics to your diet? Seems they are the big boost our body needs these days.
After reading Grain Brain I am wondering what I will do with all the info.

  2. Dear Dee
Love that snowy scene. I think the sore muscles are the worst. You can't sit, stand, lie down...... it just keeps hurting. Crackers? You'll turn into a parrot and fly the coop. Really sorry you are hurting but do get well for Christmas.
    Much love from Manzanita

  4. I am so sorry to hear that you are sick again... I have been blessed with good health (most of the time) ---so I can't imagine being sick so much. I'm sure that is discouraging... I assume that you take your share of vitamins and minerals to help keep you healthy... I take 1000 mg of Vit. C every day and knock on wood, I haven't had a flu bug or cold since 2008.... BUT--one never knows when it will hit, do we???? Bless you, my friend. Hope you feel MUCH better soon.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. Oh no, Dee. I am so very sorry to hear you've been hijacked by that nasty old flu-bug. I hope this unwelcome visitor decides you're an unhospitable host and leaves without delay! Rest is key...you are wise about that--always. Warm and comforting hugs, Debra

  6. I agree with the probiotics suggestion. I take them religiously and if my kids get sick, I pump them full of them. I also swear by Source Naturals "Wellness Cold and Flu" homeopathic remedy. They have horse pills you can swallow or they have a dissolving tablet you can take throughout the day. It always shortens the incidence of illness for us. Feel better soon!

  11. Dee, I am so sorry. And, knocking on wood, too. All around me are coughing, sneezing, gorgling, and I'm untouched.
Your prescription for recover sounds good; stick to it.

  12. Sorry to hear about the flu, but you are making all the right decisions. Life is too short to spend it wishing it were different. You're doing everything right! :-)

  14. Oh poor, Dee. So sorry the flu keeps being an unwelcome visitor and i hope it doesn't stay around long this time. DH and I rely on eating lots of fruit, vegetables and salads to ward off bugs as much as possible. I've never tried probiotics.

  16. Sorry to hear you are fluish, Dee, and hope you are on the other side of it, now, sipping those fluids and regaining your health.

That is such an atmospheric picture - perfect for the Advent season.

  17. HELLO ALL, just wanted all you who left a comment and those who come to read this posting that I'm feeling fine now. It's Saturday morning and the flu has bid me a fond farewell. It stays around for only a day or two and I think that's the result of my getting the flu shot. I've always been prone to flu--I don't know whether that's because of asthma. And so it just can't resist visiting me even though it stays for only a day or two.

Today--Saturday--I'm baking cookies; tomorrow--Sunday--I'll bake three loaves of quick bread. In between batches, I'm going to rest and read and simply enjoy the season of Advent. Peace to all of you, pressed down and overflowing and may the flu fly over your house and not drop in for a visit! Peace.

    1. So glad you're feeling better!!! Although I could have used your "keeping heads covered" advice earlier this morning as my stitches froze to my wet hair and caused unimaginable pain on the top of my head once I thawed out. I think it may be time to don the Santa hat.
